Praya Palazzo

Luxury Riverside Boutique Hotel

Magnificent hotel of European style, the Praya Palazzo is also a building of great history. Built in 1923 on the right bank of the Chaophraya River, the Praya Palazzo is an architectural symbol of the influence of the Palladian culture in Thailand. Having come under Rama V, it went on under the next ruler.

The first owner of the Praya Palazzo – at the time called “Bangkok Yee Khan” -, a half Chinese, half Thai noble close to the king, was inspired by the Italian architectural style to build his own house. After he died, his family lived in the house until they moved across the river.

After World War 2, the mansion was acquired by the Muslim community of Bangkok Noi, and transformed into a school. Nevertheless, the school was closed in 1978 because of the lack of money and another school was opened in the same place, but it was also closed some years later, in 1996.

The propriety was abandoned until an architect, Mr. Wichai, remarked how interesting it was and decided it to put it anew and to transform it into a hotel. He kept the first style of the house and had magnificent pieces of arts made by artisans to fit the place.

Unfortunately, he died in 2009, before he could achieve his great realisation. It is quiet hotel of medium size for such a standing, Praya Palazzo is therefore an incredible place to be thanks to its decoration and its colonial garden. It helps the guests to understand how worthwhile is the life on the very near Chaophraya river.
