Rock Around Asia Thailand Artists Community
The collaboration between Rock Around Asia and Thailand Artists is primarily the result of a human, intellectual, artistic, and cultural chance encounter begun in 2010 by Eric Monteil during his crossing of Southeast Asia by motorcycle. Since this trip until the opening of the gallery in 2012 in Bangkok, the Rock Around Asia artistic community has grown significantly while keeping its original spirit, its trademark: to promote Southeast Asian artists as well as any art form linked to the local culture and traditions of this region. Rock Around Asia is constantly moving, closely innovating and collaborating with artists in order to offer jointly created works (United Colors of Asia).
Rock Around Asia‘s mission is to identify and promote artists focused on topics that are important to them. Bundit Puangthong modernizes the traditions of Thailand by using street-art concepts, Wattana Poolcharoen creates and revives scenes from the Ramakien, Paitoon Jumee gives color to each of the countries of Southeast Asia to extract from them what is essential (United Colors of Asia), Silawit Poolsawat gives life to portraits of women and children in a luminous fashion, Dusit Pimchangtong uses ingenuity and impressionism to embellish green and urban spaces, Anurak Namaphai paints Isaan Farmers hard life in rice fields, Jirattaya and her particular artistic interest in the interaction of an individual’s “outer” public image with the “inner” private self, Virat Rungpayak who explores the meanings of human existence, human bondage, fate and Thai spirituality, Mister Zen who daily observes human activities and Vichit Nongnual, tenderly influenced par Chinese feminism. Through the work of these artists, we try to talk about Asia with all of our strength.
